A summary on Legal Framework, Methodologies and Practice in Denmark, Norway and Sweden
This report is a part of the Ukrainian and pan-European project UREHERIT (2023-2026) funded by Creative Europe. It aims to support Ukrainian architect with knowledge, methods and strategies for restoring and rebuilding Ukrainian cultural heritage. Furthermore, the project strives to knowledge share between European and Ukrainian architects. The report is produced by The Royal Danish Academy, Henriette Ejstrup and Ulrik Stylsvig Madsen in the autumn of 2023. The content of the report is continuously discussed with Olena Oliynyk, National Union of Architects of Ukraine (NUAU), and conclusions and recommendations are co-authored with the same
The report is a screening of methods for assessing architectural heritage. The aim of the report is to give an overview of methods used in Denmark, Norway and Sweden and discuss these. The report is to be considered as a catalogue of inspiration to architects and other building and conservation professionals as a basis for developing assessment tools fit for their aims and contexts The report is structured around 4 main chapters starting with a PREFACE with information’s of origins and a short summary of the report in an ABSTRACT. The next chapter is an introduction to THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK IN DANISH BULDING PRESERVATION. This is followed by a presentation of 4 broadly acknowledge ASSESSMENT TOOLS IN SCANDINAVIA understood as Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The strengths and weaknesses of the methods are discussed in the chapter STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES ACROSS THE TOOLS. Finally, the report contains a BIBLIOGRAPHY AND LINKS section of literature referred to during the report as well as relevant links and APPENDIX containing a matching translation of the Danish Listed Building Act to English and a example of a Conservation value assessment and a SAVE assessment.
“UREHERIT: Architects for heritage in Ukraine. Recreating identity and memory” is a project co-funded by the European Union under a dedicated call for proposals to support Ukrainian displaced people and the Ukrainian Cultural and Creative Sectors.
