CPD Course Book Published

The U-RE-HERIT project is pleased to announce the publication of
“The Future of Continuous Professional Development for Integrated Heritage Recovery in Ukraine. A Strategic Proposal to Strengthen Capacity for Heritage-Based Reconstruction in Ukraine.”

The publication was presented in December at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center and developed in cooperation with the National Union of Architects of Ukraine and the Association of Swedish Architects within the international U-RE-HERIT project.

The CPD course book summarizes the outcomes of the Continuous Professional Development programme implemented from 2023–2025 and reflects on how professional education can respond to the challenges of war, destruction, and long-term recovery. Rather than treating heritage as a constraint, the programme positions it as a driver for sustainable reconstruction, social cohesion, and cultural continuity.

The publication presents:

  • key findings from the CPD programme,
  • experiences from 12 pilot projects implemented across Ukraine,
  • practical approaches to heritage-based recovery at the community level,
  • and recommendations for establishing a sustainable, long-term CPD framework for architects and heritage professionals.

During the presentation, speakers highlighted that the programme was designed as a practice-oriented learning environment, bringing together experienced professionals, international experts, and local communities. The CPD model emphasized horizontal knowledge exchange, real-life case work, and integrated approaches linking heritage, spatial planning, and sustainable development.

The book also outlines a strategic vision for continuing CPD in Ukraine, building institutional capacity and supporting the next stages of recovery through education, professional responsibility, and international cooperation.

The publication is intended for architects, urban planners, heritage professionals, policy makers, educators, students, and all those involved in Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction processes.
